For Your Health...

Practitioner's Blog

Rooted in Wellness Articles

At i spa Health Studio, we are dedicated to elevating your well-being to new heights. Our mission is simple yet profound – to empower you on your journey to holistic health. This doesn't always include the services we provide in our clinic. Sometimes, starting off small at home with a health tip or recipe can have everlasting effects as well. We hope you enjoy our wellness blog with its collection of articles written by i spa's very own practitioners. We've included an assortment of health tips, facts, information about us, and hopefully a little entertainment splashed in as well.

Mental Health Counseling Largo FL

Welcome Back Sandra Johnson, Psychotherapist!

We are glad to announce that Sandra Johnson has returned to i spa Health Studio! If you have been looking for a therapist in Largo or the surrounding Pinellas County area, her return is worth knowing about.

Sandra is dually licensed as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in both Florida and New York. She also holds advanced credentials as a Master's Level Certified Addiction Professional (MCAP), Substance Abuse Professional (SAP), and Qualified Supervisor (QS) for LMFT, LCSW, and LMHC professionals. She is additionally an Advanced Practitioner in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART).

Sandra earned her Master's degree in Social Work from Fordham University in 1999 and has spent more than 30 years building expertise across mental health counseling, addiction recovery, trauma, and relationship support. She has served as Program and Clinical Director for multiple substance abuse and rehabilitation programs, and she has taught as an Assistant Professor of Psychology, mentoring students entering the human services field. Having practiced in both New York and Florida, she brings a broad, culturally informed perspective that shapes how she understands each person's story.

Her Approach

What To Expect From Therapy With Sandra

Sandra's approach is integrative, meaning she does not use a single fixed method with every client. Instead, she draws from several evidence-based frameworks depending on what a person actually needs:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) — to help identify and shift thought patterns that are keeping someone stuck
  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) — to build emotional awareness and regulation
  • Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) — a clinically recognized approach frequently used for trauma, anxiety, and painful memories
  • Narrative Therapy — to help clients examine the stories they carry about themselves and begin to rewrite them
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) — to strengthen resilience and values-based decision-making
  • Trauma-Informed Approaches — that honor each client's history with safety and respect

The Therapeutic Relationship

A Therapist Who Makes it Safe To Start

For many people, the hardest part of therapy is walking through the door. It takes courage to say out loud what has been heavy, what feels stuck, or what you are finally ready to change.

Sandra understands that, and her clients tend to notice it quickly. Her presence is warm and genuinely nonjudgmental. She views therapy as a collaborative process, not something that is done to a person, but something built together over time. She does not rush. She listens. And she brings the skill and experience to actually help people move forward.

I feel privileged and honored to be invited into my clients' inner lives, and to walk alongside them through healing, change, and self-empowerment.

— Sandra Johnson, LCSW, LMFT, MCAP, SAP, QS

A Little More About Sandra

Outside of the therapy room, Sandra stays active in nature. She enjoys hiking, stand-up paddleboarding, archery, and running along the beach. She also has a particular passion for developing and facilitating workshops and retreats for women, work that reflects her broader commitment to connection, growth, and empowerment.

Whole-Person Wellness

Mental Health Care as Part of i spa's Approach

At i spa, we have always believed that wellness is bigger than any single service. Massage, acupuncture, skin care, nutrition, and mental health are not separate categories. They are connected, and addressing one often supports the others.

Sandra's return to i spa in Largo reflects that philosophy. Whether you are working through something specific or simply ready to invest in your own well-being, having access to compassionate, skilled mental health support in the same space as the rest of your wellness care makes a real difference.
